Eric Purves has been an RMT since 2006. He lives, works and plays in Victoria, BC. Through his education company, Eric Purves Professional Education, he teaches numerous workshops on evidence based strategies for pain management, manual therapy, movement/exercise therapies and rehabilitation principles for health care providers.
His graduate studies at the University of British Columbia focused on the application of research evidence in healthcare practice. Eric has presented his research at conferences and has had articles published in both academic journals and massage therapy publications.
Eric's ambition is for RMTs to be leaders in the treatment and management of acute and complex pain presentations. This can effectively be achieved through dedicated mentorship.
Educator + RMT + Researcher + Mentor
Susan Shipton has been a massage therapist in Toronto since 2012. She offers her patients a combination of advanced training and astute analysis within a nurturing environment. She has extensive experience supporting people through all stages of cancer treatment, assisting in rehabilitation from injury and surgery, and helping manage chronic conditions such as lymphedema and persistent pain. She has a particular interest in the therapeutic relationship.
In 2021, Susan earned a master’s degree in advanced health care practices: interprofessional pain management. She applies her understanding of pain science and critical reasoning in a collaborative and empathetic way to an individual’s complex experience of living with pain.
Susan’s teaching experience began in her previous career in book publishing. More recently, she has given presentations and webinars to health providers on managing lymphedema and various drivers of pain. She has published articles in Massage Therapy Today on trauma-informed care and working with people with breast cancer. Having benefited herself from working with mentors throughout her professional life, Susan is excited to help others grow and reach new goals.
Clinical mentorship is more than just following suggestions. It’s about learning how to be the most effective, compassionate and informed clinician you can be. Our job is to make it easier for you to become the best version of yourself.
We explore your goals. Where do you want to be? Why do you want to be there? What are your barriers?
From there we will work together to build you a custom program with actionable strategies to help you achieve your goals. This means you need to do the work! Whether that is reading, researching, watching presentations or doing in depth self-reflection. Usually we incorporate a combination of different methodologies so you can achieve the success you deserve, personally and professionally.
We’ve helped clinicians around the world understand and implement current science and best practices into their clinic. We’ve worked hard to transform how massage therapists are educated and to inspire our profession to become leaders in modern evidence-based strategies. This doesn't require you to have advanced university degrees or decades of experience. The methodologies we apply are applicable to therapists of all levels of experience and education.
Everyone is different. What works well for one person may not for another. And that’s why we take a thoughtful, tailored approach to every new client.
Mentoring with Eric has had a significant positive impact on my personal and professional growth. Eric’s insight and guidance have been so supportive and encouraging and have helped me to fully explore and better define my goals. I really feel that I am more fully engaged and focused in my work and in my learning as a massage therapist because of my mentoring experience.

It is important to continue learning after graduation. The deeper learning begins then. A mentor is necessary as you begin to establish yourself.
Learn from Eric and Susan. They value and respect our profession. They care about YOU and your journey to become the best RMT you can.
Thanks Eric and Susan for having the foresight to create a formal support program for new and practicing massage therapist. It's a very needed program in our profession.

- Emily (Vancouver, BC)
“I’ve taken so many different courses and attended conferences trying to understand how to apply all the current research into my practice and nothing worked for me. I felt frustrated and lost! They helped me understand the big picture and put me on the right path through a combination of education, instruction, and inspiration.”
